I developed a modular furniture system that utilizes aluminum profiles for the frame and varnished walnut plywood for the surfaces.
The SolidWorks CAD Assembly file is set up to allow the construction of almost any custom size of this furniture design. Using “weldments”, I was able to quickly control the size of extrusions in relation to one another.
The plywood is CNC-milled to fit the channel of the aluminum extrusion. I devised the sliding door mechanisms and 3D printed custom hardware. The remaining parts were finished (sanding & applying finishing oil in multiple layers).
The full-scale prototype design is great to test the use and proof the concept.
