Testing design iterations in VR is a powerful experience. I have been investigating the pros and cons of the KeyVR virtual reality app from KeyShot to compare the dynamic VR design critique experience with static ray trace rendering.
The transfer from the KeyShot file to the KeyVR app is impressively simple, considering all the conversion processes that are required in the background.
Although it is expected to loose much of the detail from a ray trace rendering, it is truly informative to review in VR. I would say the KeyVR app delivers a lot of value for quick, in-between design reviews. For a final design review it is lacking detail in comparison to those highly realistic KeyShot renderings.
As it is very powerful to grasp the 3D aspect of a new design in VR, enabling one to walk around or virtually pick up the new design, I recommend enhancing the traditional design review with VR.
