Tiny Library

Upon moving to Central New York (CNY), I wanted to bring a little flavor of Boston to our new neighborhood. We had enjoyed a tiny library there in our busy street, which impressed me with the constant turnover. With a stop at the Syracuse ReStore I discovered the perfect material to build the box: Recycled solid oak church pews, a window and an old handle. My colleague donated a recycled piano hinge for the door and I used a section of a retired sail mast for the post.

The most expensive part was the varnish.(not counting my time…)

On a very nice Sunday afternoon in October, two of my neighbors volunteered to help with the installation.

It is fun to see the neighborhood kids engaging with books in a playful way.

And the tiny library even withstands the CNY winters…
